New revelation surfaces in SP Adeel Akbar case

ISLAMABAD (Zaman Mughal): Police officer Khurram Ashraf, who was a batchmate of the late SP Adeel Akbar, reportedly asked the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police twice for the late SP’s posting to the federal capital.

The IG Islamabad asked the Interior Minister for permission in response to his queries.

According to sources, the minister initially opposed the suggestion. SP Adeel’s deployment in Islamabad was made possible by the Interior Minister’s subsequent approval of the IG’s second request.

Thus, Adeel Akbar came to Islamabad, and then he was given the charge of the I-9 zone as an SP Police

Sources say that Adeel Akbar had health problems even during his Balochistan posting, and he used to go to a psychiatrist.

On the day of his death, he also mentioned the IG’s call. Reliable sources say that his death occurred at 4:23 pm.

There was a high-level meeting in Islamabad at 2 pm in which the Chief Commissioner, IG and other senior officers were present.

According to the SOP of this meeting, all the mobile watches and recording-related things of the officers are kept in one place in advance, due to which the IG was not able to call Adeel Akbar, and the meeting ended at 4:30 pm.

His death was reported 7 minutes before the meeting ended.

Earlier, A top Islamabad police officer, SP Industrial Area Adeel Akbar, reportedly shot himself on duty near the Serena checkpoint on Thursday.

SP Adeel Akbar received serious injuries and was taken to PIMS Hospital by police personnel, where he was declared dead while undergoing treatment.

SP Adeel Akbar joined the Islamabad Police as Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Industrial Area in August.

He holds an MPhil degree in Governance and Public Policy from the National Defense University, Islamabad.

Beginning his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, he has served with distinction across various cities in the province of Balochistan, commanding multiple police units.

His extensive expertise spans security management, community policing, human rights protection, counter-terrorism, human resources management, police operations, security analysis, and crisis management.

Adeel Akbar hailed from the Gujrat district of Punjab and had a three-year-old daughter.

The Islamabad Police Sp. Adeel Akbar had applied for a scholarship for his masters in the US and received a letter of his scholarship as well, according to media reports.

Adeel Akbar passed the exam in CSS 43rd Common and chose the Office Management Group, but his passion for police service led him to retake the exam.

He joined the police service after showing outstanding performance in the 46th Common.

A police spokesperson stated the facts would be released once the investigation is conducted. The reason behind the incident is still not clear, officials noted.

The SP was reportedly on security for the Pakistan and South African cricket team close to the Serena Hotel when he allegedly took a rifle from a junior police officer and shot himself.
