KARACHI: The Sindh provincial government has announced that Nehal Hashmi will serve as their new Governor after he took the official oath of office.

Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput conducted the oath-taking process at a ceremony which took place on Friday at the Governor’s House located in Karachi.

The oath-taking ceremony included attendance from CM Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, Zia Lanjar, and Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab.

The event attracted participation from senior leaders and workers of Pakistan Muslim League N, who included PPP leader Saeed Ghani and Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah.

The day before, Asif Ali Zardari appointed Hashmi as the Governor of Sindh, which confirmed the decision to appoint the veteran PML-N leader to the constitutional position. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori told the press at the Governor’s House on Thursday that he would continue to address city issues even if authorities punished him for his work on Gul Plaza and ‘Karachi Bachao Conference’ matters.

Tessori explained that he possessed knowledge about the people responsible for his termination and the orders that induced this action, but he preferred to keep this information private.

He wished the newly appointed Governor of Sindh, Nihal Hashmi, success in his new role after he learned about the appointment through television news.

Tessori urged Hashmi to continue the programs that he initiated during his time in office. The remark from Tessori stated that “No one holds office forever,” while he declared his intention to remain active as governor instead of becoming inactive. Nihal Hashmi has been a member of the Pakistan Muslim League N for decades after his birth in Karachi.
