ISLAMABAD: As a relief for flood-affected families, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an immediate halt to the collection of electricity bills for August.
The decision was taken during a high-level emergency meeting that focused on helping communities devastated by the recent floods.
Electricity distribution companies have been directed to implement the relief measure without delay, which will provide much-needed respite to millions struggling in the aftermath of the disaster.
The recent floods have killed hundreds of people and affected more than 4.4 million. In Punjab, floodwaters have damaged more than 4,500 villages, forcing the displacement of about 2.45 million people and 1.9 million livestock.
Nationwide, the floods since June 26 have claimed 956 lives, injured more than 1,060, and destroyed or damaged more than 8,400 homes. Relief efforts are underway, including 396 camps, to provide shelter, food, and medical assistance to affected communities.
