No Solar Energy Tax on the cards, assures Govt

Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that there is no proposal for imposing any tax on solar panels, here on Monday.

Khwaja Asif posted on X. Khawaja Asif said that no proposal to impose a tax on solar panels is under consideration and that there is no such intention in the near future.

He said that no summary of taxation on solar panels has been sent to the Ministry of Power by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) or the Power Division.

The defense minister said that applying tax on solar panels is not even a mandate of the CPPA, or Power Division; it is the job of FBR.

The federal minister said that the net metering system is also not working properly, so now it is being reviewed to ensure that such users are not abused.

At the end of his tweet, he asked everyone to please check the facts before tweeting on public issues.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, the news circulated that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had proposed to impose a tax on domestic or commercial solar panel installers.

As per sources in the Ministry of Energy, the Central Power Purchasing Agency has sent the summary to the Ministry of Power.

Ministry of Energy Sources said that it has been proposed to collect a tax of Rs 2,000 per kilowatt from domestic or commercial solar panel installers.

Sources said that 2 thousand rupees per kilowatt is likely to be collected from the 12-kilowatt solar panel grid.

According to the sources of the Ministry of Energy, 24 thousand rupees will be charged to customers installing 12 kilowatt solar panels.

Sources in the Ministry of Energy say that the Power Division has sent the CPPA the CPPA to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for summary approval.

As per report the proposal to review the rates of solar panels installed in the country is also under consideration. After the summary is approved, the request to reduce the rates of solar panels will be filed in Nepra.
