ISLAMABAD: The National Security Committee (NSC) on Wednesday said that India has once again ignited an inferno in the region, unequivocally condemning its “unprovoked and unjustified attack” on civilians across Punjab and Azad Kashmir.
The statement came after India, on the night of May 6-7, attacked six cities in Pakistan with missiles, air, and drone strikes, resulting in the martyrdom of 26 innocent civilians and injuring 46 people.
India targeted the civilian population in a cowardly attack and repeated its cowardly history, DG ISPR said earlier on Wednesday.

The top civilian and military leadership has termed Indian late-night strikes as blatant violations of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which manifestly constituted acts of war under international law.
“These unprovoked and unjustified attacks deliberately targeted the civilian areas, on the false pretext of the presence of imaginary terrorist camps, resulting in the martyrdom of innocent men, women, and children, and causing damage to the civilian infrastructure, including mosques,” the NSC maintained, according to the PM Office press release.
The high-level committee maintained that the deliberate targeting of civilians, including innocent women and children, by the Indian military constitutes a heinous and shameful crime, that is in violation of all norms of human behaviour and the provisions of international law.
The NSC deliberated upon the grave developments arising out of India’s unprovoked, cowardly, and unlawful act of war. It warned that responsibility for regional escalation lies squarely with India.
Moreover, the committee added that Pakistan has been emphatically rejecting Indian allegations claiming the presence of terrorist camps on its territory.
“Attacking its innocent people is neither tolerable nor acceptable to Pakistan. India, against all sanity and rationality, has once again ignited an inferno in the region; the responsibility for ensuing consequences shall lie squarely with India,” the statement read.
The meeting affirmed that Pakistan, in consonance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, reserves the right to respond, in self-defence, at a time, place, and manner of its choosing to avenge the loss of innocent Pakistani lives and blatant violation of its sovereignty.
The Armed Forces of Pakistan have duly been authorized to undertake corresponding actions in this regard, the National Security Committee maintained.
The committee also praised the military for downing five Indian fighter jets and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles during the defence of Pakistani territory.
The committee highlighted that the Armed Forces of Pakistan “resolutely defended the territorial integrity of Pakistan”, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, against Indian aggression.
“Deeply anguished by India’s naked aggression, the entire Pakistani nation greatly appreciates and admires the bravery and courage of the Armed Forces and their timely action in the defense of their motherland. The nation stands galvanized and resolute in the face of any further aggression,” the statement read.
The NSC calls upon the international community to recognize the gravity of India’s unprovoked illegal actions and to hold it accountable for its blatant violations of international norms and laws.
“Pakistan remains committed to peace, with dignity and honour, and reiterates that it shall never allow any violation of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, or permit any harm to its proud people,” the statement read.
The National Assembly has postponed its session scheduled for 11 am to 4 pm, in the wake of the military confrontation between India and Pakistan.
“The Honourable Speaker has been pleased to call a sitting of the National Assembly on Wednesday, the 7th May, 2025, at 4.00 p.m. instead of 11.00 a.m,” the National Assembly Secretariat said in a circular.
