ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army has rescued 7 mountaineers after a successful operation in Gilgit-Baltistan, here on Saturday.

As per the details, the rescued climbers include three Russians and four Pakistanis who were rescued from a height of 20,100 feet.

These climbers were in trouble due to altitude sickness. On the rescue request, the Pakistan Army took immediate action and the mountaineers were safely rescued by army helicopters.

The mountaineers thanked the Pakistan Army for their help.

In an operation in late July, the Pakistan Army successfully rescued six foreign climbers from K2, also known as “Wild Mountain”.

The army airlifted the climbers, who hailed from the US, Chile, Macedonia and Nepal, after they contacted their base camp for help after suffering altitude sickness during the expedition.

In a video message, the mountaineer from Macedonia said he was trapped below Camp 3, the world’s second-highest peak, for about three hours.

“We were more prone to frostbites, my fingers were so cold,” he said. “I felt some initial symptoms of severe mountain sickness and hence I am very grateful to Pakistan Army for saving me”.
