Pakistan cancels passports of 4700 citizens imprisoned in UAE for criminal activities

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has taken a tough stance against its citizens involved in criminal activities abroad, especially in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), here on Sunday.

As per the media reports, the passports of 4,700 Pakistani citizens currently imprisoned in the UAE have been deactivated.

The action was taken after detailed reports were received by the UAE authorities regarding 5,292 Pakistani citizens convicted of various crimes.

Of these, 2,470 were convicted of drug-related crimes, while 100 were linked to cases of fraud, forgery and sexual harassment.

Furthermore, the passports of 704 Pakistanis imprisoned for theft and 216 for murder and robbery have also been cancelled. Moreover, the passports of 375 Pakistani citizens residing illegally in the UAE have been cancelled.
