ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is likely to receive the next tranche under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan program as the IMF Executive Board is scheduled to meet on May 8, sources said.
According to sources, the Executive Board is expected to approve more than $1.2 billion for Pakistan under the ongoing financial assistance programs. Pakistan is likely to receive funds under the $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the $1.4 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
Sources said the third review of Pakistan’s $7 billion EFF program has been completed successfully, increasing the chances of approval for the next $1 billion tranche. An additional $210 million is also expected following the second review of the RSF program.
Pakistan and the IMF had reached a staff-level agreement on March 27, paving the way for the Executive Board’s approval. Sources added that if the board approves the amount, the funds will soon be transferred to the State Bank of Pakistan’s account.
Pakistan secured the current 37-month IMF program in September 2024. Under the EFF program, the country received its first $1 billion tranche in September 2024, the second tranche in May 2025, and the third tranche on December 11, 2025.
