RAWALPINDI: On the 66th martyrdom anniversary of Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed, the Armed Forces of Pakistan, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the Services Chiefs paid a solemn tribute to the recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Major Tufail Muhammad, born on July 22, 1914, in Hoshiarpur, East Punjab, during the British Raj, joined the Punjab Regiment in 1943. By 1947, he had risen to the rank of Major and relocated to Pakistan with his family.

In August 1958, Major Tufail was assigned to neutralize Indian troops in Lakshmipur. On August 7, he launched a daring assault on an enemy position from just 15 yards away.

During the attack, he sustained severe injuries and ultimately succumbed to them. In recognition of his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military honor. Known as Fateh-i-Lakshmipur, he is buried in Tufailabad village, near Borewala.

Major Tufail Muhammad, the second individual to receive the prestigious Nishan-e-Haider, made the ultimate sacrifice in 1958 while bravely fighting in the Lakshmipur sector of East Pakistan.

The anniversary serves as a poignant reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices and selfless commitment of the Pakistan Armed Forces in protecting the nation. “We honor the memory of these brave individuals who sacrificed their lives to uphold our nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” stated the ISPR.
