KARACHI: Pakistan is observing Shab-e-Barat, also known as the Night of Forgiveness, with great religious fervor tonight. Mosques across the country are illuminated and filled with worshippers who are offering special prayers, reciting the Quran, and listening to sermons on divine mercy and forgiveness.

All mosques are filled with highly illuminated buildings and populated by devotees offering special prayers, Quranic recitations, and listening to sermons on divine mercy and forgiveness.

Scholars have been asking believers to open their hearts and seek the blessing of Allah on this blessed night, known by many, sometimes, as the Night of Forgiveness.

Some people go to the graves of their deceased relatives to pray for their reward, while others share sweets and charity food among their neighbors and the poor.

Keeping the devotees in mind, the Sindh government has announced a holiday for all public and private educational institutions on Friday, February 14.

Shab-e-Barat falls on the 15th of Shaban in the Islamic calendar. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee previously confirmed the sighting of the Shaban moon on January 30, and thus today is the special night of blessing.

For the night, devout people from all walks of life partake in prayers, seeking forgiveness and mercy, and thus fulfill the essence of Shab-e-Barat.
