Pakistan Railways inducts 40 high-capacity wagons to its fleet

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has added at least 40 high-capacity wagons of international standard in its fleet that have been produced locally with Chinese Technology.

Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Railways Amir Baloch inaugurated the wagons in Lahore Cantt Railway Station on Wednesday.

According to the details, the modern design wagons will also be able to transport containers with a capacity of 70 tons of load. The wagons can transport goods at a speed of 100 km per hour.

CEO of Pakistan Railways said that 820 such coaches are planned to join the railway system by the end of fiscal year 2025-26, adding that the freight train will also be able to run at a speed of 100km per hour.

Furthermore, he said, local manufacturing of wagons is a major step towards self-reliance. Manufacturing wagons locally will save foreign exchange reserves and are expected to increase the income by more than 9 billion rupees every year.

The Pakistan Railways spokesperson said that the department has developed wagons of international standards for freight.
