WASHINGTON: The Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee (PAKPAC), an organization registered with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) in the United States established in 1989, has endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 US presidential election.

As per the details, the organization’s official X page posted a detailed statement with the caption: “After extensive meetings with the Trump and Harris campaigns, we believe the former president is the candidate who will improve Pak-US relations and bring true democracy to Pakistan.”

In a detailed statement, it was written that ‘although we certainly do not agree with the former president on every issue, but after extensive meetings with his campaign and the Haris campaign, we believe that the former president is the candidate who can improve Pakistan-US relations. Will make. relations, secure the release of all political prisoners wrongfully imprisoned in Pakistan and work to end Pakistan’s dangerous democratic backwardness.

PAKPAC also stressed that relations between the two countries were ‘better’ during the presidency of former President Donald Trump as his administration engaged in direct talks with Pakistani ministers.

He also said those efforts have been absent under the Biden/Harris administration.

“In contrast, the Biden/Harris administration has not demonstrated the same commitment to bilateral relations. Under President Biden, the Pakistani government was pushed into legislation against Pakistan’s popular and democratically elected prime minister. And the administration did nothing to release the former prime minister and other political prisoners,” the statement said.

PAKPAC shared fears with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, writing, “We fear these policies will continue under a Harris presidency, further straining relations between our two countries.”

It should be noted that PACAC is the organization that has lobbied extensively for former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Additionally, he lobbied for legislation in the US Congress in June calling for a “full and independent investigation” of Pakistan’s elections and “the people of Pakistan through harassment, intimidation, torture, arbitrary detention.” Attempts to stifle participation in democracy were condemned.”
