ISLAMABAD: The Special Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Amendments has unanimously approved the draft, which will be presented in the Cabinet meeting tomorrow (October 19), here on Friday.

As per the details, PTI and JUI(F) opposed the draft while ANP boycotted the meeting.

Friday’s meeting at Parliament House was attended by key figures including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, PTI’s Amir Dogar, JUI-F’s Shahida Akhtar Ali, PML-N’s Irfan Siddiqui, MQM’s Aminul Haque, PPP’s Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, and others.

An amendment proposed by the ANP to change the name of the province by removing “Khyber” was rejected, prompting a boycott by the party. Amil Wali Khan also left the meeting.

During the meeting, PTI’s Aamir Dogar emphasized that constitutional amendments are the responsibility of the government. “We are taking risks, some of our members are hiding. Privacy is being violated, and legislation is being forced,” he remarked, with Maulana Fazlur Rahman supporting his stance.

The committee finally approved a joint draft excluding the coalition parties’ proposals. The draft will now go to the Cabinet for approval before being tabled in the National Assembly and Senate.
