Passport and immigration system being upgraded on modern lines: Mohsin Naqvi

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced an important and practical step to prevent passport forgery.

For this purpose, modern security features will be added to passports to eliminate fake documents. In this regard, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that the passport and immigration system is being developed on modern lines.

The Interior Minister said this during a visit to the Beijing Public Security Passport Bureau. During the visit, he was received by the Bureau’s Director General Sun Yu. Mohsin Naqvi inspected various departments of the bureau and took a detailed briefing on the complete procedure for issuing passports in China.

He was informed about all the steps from submitting the application to printing and delivery of the passport.

Mohsin Naqvi praised the Chinese immigration system and said that this system is fast, secure and effective. He said that Pakistan is also modernizing its immigration system keeping in mind the Beijing model. He said that not only will forgery be prevented through new security features, but public confidence will also increase.

On the other hand, the annual performance report of the Directorate of Passports and Immigration has also been released at the end of the year 2025. According to the report, the year 2025 was declared a year of reforms and improvements on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Interior Minister. Due to the installation of modern printers, a permanent solution to the long-standing backlog of passports was possible.

According to the Passport Department, a total of more than 5.5 million passports were issued during 2025, which is a record in the country’s history. These include passports of the normal, urgent and fast track categories. The facility of keeping passport offices open 24 hours has also made the process easier for the public.
