PESHAWAR: In a recent development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities have relocated the famous fish market due to its unhygienic conditions and traffic congestions.
Located earlier at Ghanta Ghar, the wholesale fish market has been shifted to Kabootar Chowk on Ring Road after directives from the provincial government.
This is some relief for the people who have been inner-city dwellers, considering the daily struggles they were facing due to heavy traffic causing traffic jam for hours.
This ancient market was very notorious for its traffic congestion, foul smells, and waste. The life of people was miserable here. But now, the spacious facilities of this new site provide parking, so the commercial activities will be more organized while preserving the city’s aesthetics.
The deputy commissioner of Peshawar, Sarmad Salim Akram, inaugurated the relocation stating, that easing public’s problems are among the top priorities of the administration and the city‘s development.
He further assured continued cooperation with the business community to promote economic growth in Peshawar. Various officials and representatives from the trader community attended the event, welcoming the relocation as a progressive step for the city.
The new space will bring fish to the consumers on cleaner and more accessible floors, which is an improvement from the old market. This decision was taken in order to end public sufferings while earning revenue from the activities of commercial nature.
So, upon re-location, fish sellers will now be able to sell their wares in a much more proper and hygienic place that will eventually benefit the vendors as well as the customers.
The move is a positive step towards promoting economic growth and development in Peshawar, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the city’s overall quality of life.
