ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) movement of its Dubai and Abu Dhabi flights to different airports because of ongoing Middle Eastern conflicts has created major disruptions to air travel throughout the entire region.
The national carrier representative confirmed that all Dubai flights now use Fujairah Airport as their new operational base and all Abu Dhabi flights have moved their operations to Al Ain Airport for safety reasons.
The Middle Eastern conflict escalation has created major disruptions to flight operations, resulting in 101 flights being cancelled within one day.
All international flight operations from eight main Pakistani airports have been disrupted, which includes Allama Iqbal International Airport. The cancelled flights included routes to important locations, which included Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Sharjah, Kuwait, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Azerbaijan, and Dubai.
Airport officials announced that approximately 2000 flights across the country have been cancelled during the last 18 days because of the escalating crisis.
The flight cancellations have created significant travel disruptions for passengers who need to travel from multiple cities, which include Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot.
Both domestic and international airlines have advised travelers to check their flight schedules before heading to the airport. The United Arab Emirates’ special flight operations currently remain suspended until authorities provide additional information.
The Middle Eastern crisis, together with airspace restrictions, has caused all flights to Dubai to experience complete suspension or major disruptions, resulting in multiple flights being redirected and delayed, and sent to different airports.
