In a recent development, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the cabinet division to allocate its helicopter for the provision of medicines, transfer of patients and other relief activities in Parachinar.
Parachinar is in a grave situation due to the prolonged closure of roads that has led to the shortage of essential medicines, food items, and fuel in Kurram agency.
Medicines are being foisted in by the Cabinet Division helicopter is providing medicines, carrying patients, transferring logistics, and performing any relief activity in the area, on directions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Under his command, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is currently directing the relief operations, ensuring the delivery of medicines for the emergency needs of children, women, and elderly people in Parachinar.
For the first flight, the helicopter delivered 500 kilograms worth of medicines and returned with four transferred patients from Parachinar to Islamabad. Another helicopter is also being sent with a fresh load of 500 kilograms worth of medicines and will bring other patients to Islamabad on its return flight.
The prime minister has directed rapid relief measures and expressed solidarity with the people of Parachinar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by saying, “In this hour of sorrow and hardship, we stand with the people of Parachinar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
The situation is desperate on the ground as violence continues, with the latest shocking incident being one of two beheadings. Two men of Parachinar were captured by the rival faction and slaughtered in cold blood in the Bagan area, urging the locals to stage a sit-in in protest.
The main road that binds Kurram to other areas has been blocked since October 13, and the debilitating effect of the shortage of medicines, food, and fuel has started to take its toll. Another sit-in in Karachi, in solidarity with the people of Parachinar, has been organized to highlight the need for a final closure to the matter.
