ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly completed consultations on a possible reshuffle of the federal cabinet, according to media reports.
As per the reports, the decision is expected in the next few days, as the inclusion of new and young faces in the federal cabinet is also likely.
The current Minister of State, Bilal Azhar Kayani, is likely to be promoted to the post of Federal Minister and given the Ministry of Commerce, while Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik may also be made a federal minister.
A proposal to hand over the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is under consideration, while he will also continue in the post of Deputy Prime Minister.
Similarly, there is also a possibility of giving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Mohsin Naqvi and the Ministry of Interior to Rana Sanaullah.
Regarding the inclusion of new faces in the cabinet, the name of PML-N Member of National Assembly Nousheen Iftikhar is under consideration.
Apart from this, the proposal to make Babar Nawaz Minister of State is also being considered.
Young leader Usama Sarwar is also likely to be appointed as the minister of state for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan affairs, while a few other members of the assembly are also being considered for different ministries or ministries of state.
Reports further say that a proposal to remove ministers of state from some less important ministries is also under consideration, while various options are being considered to reduce the overall size of the federal cabinet and reduce the burden on the national exchequer.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some federal ministries.
In particular, questions have been raised about the performance of the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industries and Production, and the Ministry of Water Resources.
