LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has nominated MNA Chaudhry Hussain Elahi, son of Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, as the leader of the opposition in National Assembly.

The decision to nominate Chaudhry Hussain Elahi was taken by the party leadership after the resignations of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) members from the National Assembly.

Talking to media at his residence here, Chaudhry Hussain Elahi said that the PML-Q had always fought for the rights of Pakistan and its people. “We cannot leave Pakistan at the mercy of this imported government. The mandate-stealing government also wants to occupy an important position like the leader of the opposition, which we will not allow to succeed under any circumstances,” he said.

He said, “We stand firm with Imran Khan, the imported government wants to bring an opposition which remained in the Sindh House, the members who defected, they will take the next ticket from the present government.” At the same time, the PML-Q was fighting against the imported government and also the dissident members of the PTI, he said.

He said that the tradition of floor crossing should end, the court should see that the dissident members were given the mandate of the PTI. If any external force invested three to four billion rupees, will the government change,” Hussain Elahi said adding that they were in touch with the GDA for the leader of the opposition.

The PML-Q leader further said that the government wanted to elect one of the puppet opposition leaders from among the dissident members who joined it so that it could do its bidding for legislation or other issues in the National Assembly.

Elahi said that the government’s occupation of the post of the leader of the opposition was in fact contrary to democratic values. The group with vested interests also wanted one man show for many important positions in the future which the PML-Q would not allow to succeed under any circumstances, he said adding that they would do their best to stop them from violating the rights of the people.

Hussain Elahi further said, “The PML-Q is undoubtedly the party of the people’s aspirations, we will, as always, be a leaden wall against these imported elements who are still a threat to the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan.”
