ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari has said that in the last 9 months, electricity has become cheaper by another 60 percent for consumers with less than 200 units.
He also revealed that approximately 7,000 megawatts of additional electricity are available in the country.
In response to questions asked in the National Assembly, Owais Leghari said that no electricity rate has been offered for crypto yet.
He said that about 7,000 megawatts of additional electricity is available in the country, while there are about 35 million consumers on the national grid.
The Federal Minister for Energy further said that about 18.5 million consumers are being given about 90 percent subsidy on zero to 100 units.
He said that about 70 percent subsidy is being given on 100 to 200 units, and the slab will have an impact of one unit somewhere.
Owais Leghari also said that there were about 6 to 7 million consumers with less than 200 units; the number of these consumers has increased to about 18.3 million.
He said that in June 2024, a cross-subsidy of Rs 255 billion was taken from the industry, and the volume of cross-subsidy has been reduced from 255 billion to 94 billion.
Owais Leghari also said that the electricity tariff, including tax, has been reduced from 48.7 to 38.4, and the rate of non-protected consumers has also been reduced by 11 to 17 percent according to the slab.
He said that we have reduced the burden of cross-subsidies and have also reduced the overall price of electricity, and have not allowed the burden of cross-subsidies to fall on domestic consumers.
