ISLAMABAD: Leader of Pakistan People’s Party Aseefa Bhutto, daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari, has been elected unopposed as member of the National Assembly after her opponents withdrew their nomination papers.
Aseefa was elected to National Assembly seat in Shaheed Benazirabad from NA-207, which fell vacant after her father Asif Ali Zardari elected as President of Pakistan.
Initially the 11 candidates submitted their nomination papers for the by-election. While after the scrutiny only four candidates, including Aseefa Bhutto, had their papers approved.
In a statement, the ECP said the remaining three candidates withdrew their nomination papers in favor of Aseefa Bhutto.
