President and the Chief Election Commissioner decides to hold general elections on February 8

President Dr. Arif Alvi and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja agreed to hold general elections on February 8, 2024.

According to the statement issued by the Election Commission, it has been agreed between the President and the Chief Election Commissioner to hold the general elections on February 8, 2024.

The spokesperson of the Election Commission said, it has been decided to hold the general elections on Thursday, February 8.

A declaration in this regard has also been issued by the President’s House.

The Election Commission will inform the Supreme Court about the final date of the elections tomorrow.

It should be noted that today, during the hearing of the case related to elections in the country in 90 days, the lawyer of the Election Commission appeared in the Supreme Court and said that the Election Commission is ready to conduct elections in the country on February 11, 2024.

The court ordered the Election Commission to consult with the President today and inform the court about the date of the election tomorrow.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and Attorney General Mansoor Usman met President Arif Alvi on the order of the Supreme Court, in which the members of the Election Commission were also present.

According to the sources, the meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner and the Attorney General continued for more than an hour, in which 3 dates were set before the President for the general elections.

Sources said that the Election Commission gave its opinion on the dates of January 28, February 4 and February 11, however, the Election Commission declared February 11 suitable for the elections.

According to the sources, after meeting with the President, the Chief Election Commissioner left the President’s House and reached the Election Commission, where he wrote a letter to the President and proposed to hold elections on February 11 in the country.

The Election Commission said that by following the instructions of the Supreme Court, they have proposed February 11 as the date for the general elections.

Sources said that in the meeting between President Dr. Arif Alvi and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, they could not agree on the date of the election, after which the Attorney General went to the Chief Election Commissioner with the President’s message and the President’s position.

Later, a consensus was reached to hold elections on February 8.
