President Trump launches New ‘Gold Card’ Program
NEW YORK: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a major new initiative for individuals seeking American citizenship, formally launching the $1 million ‘Gold Card’ program.
According to media, the Gold Card will grant legal status and a pathway to U.S. citizenship to individuals who pay $1 million, and to companies that invest $2 million per foreign worker.
President Trump said the program is similar to the traditional Green Card system but offers a more powerful and efficient route to permanent residency and eventual citizenship. The official website for Gold Card applications went live yesterday, shortly before Trump unveiled the program at the White House in the Roosevelt Room alongside business leaders.
As per details, the new scheme replaces the decades-old EB-5 visa program, introduced in 1990 to boost foreign investment. Under EB-5, individuals who invested nearly $1 million in a company that created at least 10 jobs were eligible for U.S. residency and citizenship.
Trump described the Gold Card initiative as a plan designed to attract and retain top foreign talent, while also providing substantial revenue for the federal treasury. He said several pricing options had been evaluated in recent months before finalizing the $1 million and $2 million investment tiers.
Trump emphasized that all proceeds from the program would go directly to the U.S. government, generating billions of dollars to be used in the country’s national interest.
