LAHORE: For the first time, students of private universities will also be given laptops. The Punjab government has approved a plan to provide private university students with laptops.

The Higher Education Department reported that this would commence with the distribution of 10,000 laptops among students of private institutions.

The project has already kicked off, and it has been reported that it will help close the gap between students in government and private universities.

The authorities announced that no changes would be made to the merit criteria for applicants of the Punjab Laptop Scheme. The rules would remain unchanged.

Under these conditions, students should be studying in a private college in Punjab. Also, their performance in studies should be very good. A minimum of 70% marks or equivalent CGPA in the last exam has been set.

Now, students who received a laptop in an earlier phase are not eligible. This project also ensures that it maintains reserved quotas for female students, students with disabilities, as well as those from low-income backgrounds. This initiative will help in promoting a fair distribution, especially for those in most need of technology access.
