PTA restricted Indian YouTube channels & websites in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Following the Fake propaganda and misinformation campaign, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 16 Indian YouTube news channels, 31 YouTube video links, and 32 websites, according to media reports.

The ban was implemented due to the prevailing regional situation to safeguard national security and protect Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.

The prohibited content was discovered to be promoting false and damaging narratives aimed at distorting public perception and eroding national unity. This measure is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to combat misinformation and promote responsible use of digital platforms.

PTA stated that it is dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and trustworthy internet environment for Telecom consumers in Pakistan. The Authority will continue to closely monitor online information and take decisive action against any material that endangers the country’s national interests.

Earlier, India, in another controversial move, has banned prominent Pakistani YouTube channels, stating that these YouTube channels were promoting provocative content in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and  Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Indian media, the ban came into effect on the recommendations of India’s Ministry of Home Affairs. The banned YouTube channels have more than 63 million subscribers.

According to the list of major Pakistani news organizations, including Dawn, Geo News, ARY News, Bol News, Samaa TV, Suno News, and Raftar, have been banned in India.

Additionally, YouTube channels of prominent journalists YouTube channels including Irshad Bhatti, Asma Shirazi, Umar Cheema, and Muneeb Farooq, are also prohibited.

Other websites that got hit by India included the Pakistan Reference, Samaa Sports, Uzair Cricket, and Razi Naama.
