ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Political Committee has announced a boycott of the voting process for 26th constitutional amendments in both houses, citing a lack of moral, democratic, and constitutional justification.

The committee has also expressed strong opposition to any PTI members of the National Assembly and Senate that might go against party policy and participating in voting will trigger protests against them.

According to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, two senators, Zarqa Taimur and Faisal Saleem, may vote in favor of the amendments despite the party’s opposition.

The PTI has made it clear that its members are bound by party policy and the party leader’s directives. Those who deviate from party policy will face peaceful protests outside their residences.

This development comes as Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar prepares to present the draft constitutional package to the federal cabinet for formal approval today. The package incorporates proposals from JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and reflects the stance of allied parties.

The National Assembly is set to convene at 6 p.m., while the Senate will meet earlier at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, the federal cabinet will also gather at 3 p.m. to discuss and approve legislation.

Law Minister Attaullah Tarar expects cabinet members to have formed an opinion on the legislation by 2:30 p.m.
