PTI Protest, Internal Rift & Pakistan-Iran Ties in Focus on ABN’s “Tajzia”

The show opened with a detailed discussion on Pakistan’s current political landscape, focusing on the large-scale protest organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) scheduled for August 5th. Preparations for the nationwide demonstrations are reportedly underway both within Pakistan and abroad.

PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur recently urged party members unable to align with official policies to step down, paving the way for more effective leadership. Despite internal challenges, Gandapur claims strong support within the provincial government and assembly, largely due to his control over funding. Senior political analyst Lehaz Ali shed light on the growing rift between Gandapur and fellow PTI leader Junaid Akbar, particularly within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to Ali, although Gandapur maintains influence, visible enthusiasm and large-scale preparations for the August 5th protest in KP remain limited. The planned rally in Peshawar is expected to last two to three hours along the Grand Trunk Road, concluding by evening.

From London, ABN correspondent Sajid Aizaz reported on a recent PTI demonstration that drew participants from various cities across the UK. Despite some organizational shortcomings and ongoing leadership divisions, overseas Pakistanis continue to support former Prime Minister Imran Khan. However, Aizaz noted a noticeable decline in protest enthusiasm compared to previous years, especially during recent visits by opposition figures such as Nawaz Sharif, which saw no corresponding PTI mobilization. Uncertainty remains over whether Imran Khan’s sons will return to Pakistan, as no official announcements have been made.

Legal expert Hassanat Malik discussed a recent letter sent by PTI’s faction Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan to the Chief Justice, highlighting constitutional concerns following the 26th Amendment’s passage last October. Malik indicated that the letter could lead to judicial review after September, underscoring the unpredictable nature of Pakistan’s political and judicial landscape.

The program concluded with an update on Pakistan-Iran relations, focusing on the recent two-day visit of the Iranian President to Islamabad.
