Public holiday announced for schools in Karachi on August 30

KARACHI: The Karachi administration has declared a public holiday in all private and government educational institutions including schools on August 30, 2024 (Friday).

According to the notification issued by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, all educational institutions across Karachi will be closed on Friday in light of the advisory of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

Earlier, the Sindh government announced the closure of schools and other educational institutions in different districts of Sindh.

A public holiday was also observed by schools and colleges in Central Karachi on August 29 (today).

Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted that the rainfall in the port city would continue until August 31 with expected rain up to 200mm.

PMD reported that a potential cyclone was developing in the northeastern Arabian Sea, approximately 270 kilometers southeast of Karachi. The cyclone could hit the Sindh coast by Friday morning, bringing heavy rains over the next 72 hours.
