HYDERABAD: Hyderabad district administration has announced the closure of all schools and colleges across the district on August 30, 2024 (Friday) amid the heavy rainfall forecast.

A notification issued by the Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner stated that the announcement about the holiday in educational institutions was taken due to fear of expected heavy monsoon rains in the region.

Local administration and provincial authorities are taking all precautionary measures to safeguard students and staff during this weather event, the notification said.

Moreover, the Sindh government has announced that schools in various districts including Karachi will remain closed due to ongoing heavy rainfall from August 29 to 31.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected to lash Hyderabad, Karachi, and other parts of Sindh as a strong monsoon system will reach the Arabian Sea on Thursday evening.

It said Karachi was likely to receive from 150 to 200 millimeters of rain in the next three days. “Intermittent rain in various parts of Sindh is expected until August 31, with strong winds thunderstorms, and heavy downpours in some places,” Met Office said.
