LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken a strong stance against price hikes and hoarding in the province, directing the chief secretary to personally oversee the drive.
In a meeting chaired in Lahore on Sunday, CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of prominently displaying government rate lists on all shops and strictly monitoring the demand and supply of essential items to prevent hoarding.
The Punjab government has also brought in measures to control prices of basic commodities during the month of Ramadan to check inflation and help the masses.
Under the Ramzan Nigabhan Relief Package, the administration is trying to provide affordable prices for major food items such as vegetables, flour, sugar, and dates. Staple vegetables like tomatoes, onions, and potatoes should be available at affordable prices, between Rs40-60 per kilogram.
The price of dates is also expected to drop from Rs525 to Rs485 per kilogram.
