Punjab CM Maryam launches solarization project for farmers, Check eligibility criteria inside

LAHORE: In a recent development, the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated a new initiative under the Kissan Package to transform tube wells operated by fuel or electricity to solar energy consumption.

According to a spokesperson from the provincial agriculture department, the program aims to convert 8,000 tube wells to solar power, with a budget of Rs. 9 billion allocated for its implementation.

The project aims to reduce the energy costs for framers and to ease pressure on the province’s energy sector.  The farmers utilizing the tube well installed before October 30,2024 are eligible to apply, whereas, the application deadline is December 31,2024.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the tube well solarization programme, the applicant must also be registered in the land registry.

Eligible farmers can apply on the website https://cmstp.punjab.gov.pk/ . Additionally, the Punjab government has announced three subsidy tiers to support the solarization of tube wells including Rs. 500,000 for 10 kW systems, Rs. 750,000 for 15 kW systems, and Rs. 1,000,000 for 20 kW systems

For the remaining cost of the solarization process, farmers will need to cover the costs themselves.
