Punjab CM Maryam to convert 978 acres of land into forests

LAHORE: The Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is making a giant leap towards fighting smog and air pollution by transforming hundreds of acres of land into forests, which will serve as natural air purifiers.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has initiated a campaign to cultivate a natural forest on 978 acres in Lahore to make the city an oxygen hub.

The government of the province has already begun to develop such natural air filter forests on the banks of the Ravi River, and 105,000 trees have been planted on 144 acres for the provision of oxygen for the people of Lahore.

More plantations are being carried out, and an attempt is being made to plant 634,000 trees to give a fresh breath to Lahore.

This is a war against smog, a historic one, and the mission is to make Lahore clean and green and free from environmental pollution, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said.

There will be a green wall on 978 acres, and the provincial government will further increase the scope of planting trees in Lahore and other areas.

The plan is to develop a large green belt on the Ravi River banks, which will provide a clean air supply and bring new life to the city. Aurangzeb has praised the effort by the Forest Department and Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and has appealed to people to help the government’s vision come true by joining the tree plantation drive.

The Punjab government’s initiatives to fight smog and air pollution. The Chief Minister has also initiated other plans, including employing cutting-edge satellite technology to guard forests and curb illegal logging.

The government has also initiated a GIS Lab for tracking forest regions and established a target of enhancing the tree cover in the province.

Further, the government has also introduced plan for conserving and restoring terrestrial ecosystems, which includes growing the forest cover as a percentage of the overall land area.

In total, the Punjab government is adopting an all-encompassing policy towards solving the problem of smog and air pollution, and the campaign of planting trees is a very important measure towards solving this objective
