LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set an ambitious target of providing loans to 40,000 people by May for building their homes under the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme.

The housing scheme received approval for an allocation of Rs62 billion, with the direction to the authorities to effect the loan disbursement process without delay. The chief minister also advocated for increasing the loan amount from Rs1.5 million to Rs2 million to provide further relief to eligible families.

Since the launch of the program, over 5,000 citizens have been provided loans, and 4,200 houses are near completion. The program aims to provide houses to poor families in collaboration with the Ravi Urban Development Authority and the Housing and Urban Development Department.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated that owning a house is a fundamental right of every citizen, and every homeless person should be provided with a roof over their head.

Apart from her work in the housing sector, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to the security forces for their bravery in killing nine terrorists in North Waziristan.
