LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz has decided to transform Taxila into a world-class city of civilizations. An order has been issued to form the Taxila Heritage Authority with immediate preparation of an operational framework.
Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb visited Taxila and chaired a high-level meeting that focused on a two-phase project – initially upgrading the city and eventually developing it into an international tourist city.
Key decisions taken during the meeting included revitalizing the Taxila Arts and Crafts Village within 15 days and drafting a world-class tourism policy. A preliminary management plan for the protection of ancient sites and heritage sites has been prepared, which is being finalized soon.
The scope of environmental protection institutions in Taxila is also being expanded. Officials briefed the meeting on the completion of mapping of industries, factories and brick kilns in Taxila and its surroundings.
The Taxila City Master Plan was also discussed in detail and proposals were considered to expand the Taxila Museum and create an open-air museum to further highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage.
