Punjab govt rejects Afridi’s claims, vows jail meetings follow strict rules

LAHORE: Azma Bukhari responded to a letter written by Sohail Afridi to Maryam Nawaz requesting a meeting with Imran Khan.

Punjab Minister for Information and Broadcasting Azma Bukhari said in response to the letter that the Chief Minister of Punjab has nothing to do with meeting prisoners in jails, Maryam Nawaz never interferes in the work of any government official.

Azma Bukhari said on Sohail Afridi’s letter that according to prison rules, political meetings are not allowed, the jail superintendent is the final authority regarding meetings.

‘The prison authorities arrange meetings with the relatives and friends of the prisoner. The names of the visitors are given by the prisoner. If a prisoner does not want to meet anyone, the jail authorities cannot force him to meet.

He said that meetings are held with Imran Khan twice a week, so far 420 meetings of lawyers and 189 meetings of family members have been held with the PTI founder, while the meetings of Bushra Bibi’s family are separate from this, but still a rally is held outside the jail every week.

He said that Sohail Afridi should read the law himself before teaching us the law, he stands with the convicted criminals of May 9, holds rallies and threatens government officials.
