LAHORE: In a recent crackdown against poor environmental conditions of Pakistan, the Punjab government has decided to initiate online registration for plastic manufacturers, suppliers, and recyclers across the province.

According to Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb’s statement, the goal of this initiative is to centralize data on the plastics business. “We will fully integrate the plastic supply chain into the formal economy by registering plastic producers, suppliers, and recyclers online, which will help to reduce environmental pollution and improve economic transparency,” she stated.

Moreover, she emphasized that stringent measures are being taken against polyethylene bags that are less than 75 microns thick, as part of the government’s efforts to combat plastic pollution.

Senior Minister  revealed that notifications have already been sent to nine factories that are in violation of these regulations. Anti-plastic teams are also checking markets, stores, and eating establishments to make sure they are in conformity, and store owners have been told to replace their plastic products with more environmentally friendly ones.

Through strict enforcement actions, the government is dedicated to eradicating the usage of plastic bags, the Senior Minister underlined. Beginning on December 10, she said, the Environment Protection Department would step up its crackdown and anti-plastic campaign.
