LAHORE: As part of an environmental push to improve the Lahore’s air quality and lower pollution, the Punjab government has announced to launch 400 electric buses.

During a press conference on climate change and anti-smog initiatives, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced this program, which comprises a number of measures to address the city’s chronic smog.

Electric buses would be crucial in reducing air pollution from traditional cars, which are a major source of smog in Lahore. The program is a component of the Punjab government’s 10-year anti-smog plan, which aims to address the environmental situation by combining policy changes and technology developments.

In addition to lowering emissions, the buses will aid in the shift to more environmentally friendly and sustainable public transportation.

First, a total of 400 electric buses are scheduled to be operational throughout the city in the upcoming months, with 27 of them expected to arrive in Lahore by January 2025.

This initiative is a part of a larger campaign to convert 5.2 million motorbikes in Lahore to electric ones, which would help create a greener transportation system and better air.

A key element of the government’s broader plan to lower pollution levels, which have been a persistent issue in Lahore, particularly during the winter, is the installation of electric buses. Additionally, the government has been addressing other issues, such shutting down facilities that release chemical gases and harmful substance into the environment.
