LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched the “Apna Khet Apna Rozgar” scheme aimed at empowering landless farmers by providing government land on a 10-year lease.

As per the Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, agricultural land worth around Rs. 160 billion will be distributed among eligible farmers, benefiting over 88,780 families across the province.

She said the land will be strictly used for cultivation, with 13,821 lots allocated across various districts, including 1,668 lots in Cholistan. Under the scheme, farmers will receive land valued between Rs. 25 to 40 lakh, with some plots ranging up to five acres.

Azma Bukhari added that each selected farmer will also receive a one-time grant of Rs. 50,000. She further stated that 8,000 tube wells have already been solarized as part of ongoing agricultural reforms.

The minister said the initiative aims to strengthen Punjab’s agriculture sector and improve rural livelihoods through sustainable development.
