Punjab police booked man for abusive remarks against President Zardari

HAFIZABAD: Punjab police have registered a case against a person for saying offensive words against President Asif Ali Zardari and attacking a worker of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), here on Monday.

As per the details, reports said that the man, identified as Zulfiqar Ali Butt, was booked against him on the complaint of Pakistan People’s Party Regional Secretary General Muhammad Arshad Mahand.

But the complainant said he was abusive about 12 months ago.

The city police have started the investigation into the matter while the arrest of the accused is yet to take place.

In March 2024, veteran Pakistani politician Asif Ali Zardari was sworn in as the President of Pakistan for the second time.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa administered oath to the newly elected President of the country. The high-profile event was attended by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Armed Forces Chiefs and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Governors, Chief Ministers and top diplomats.

The co-chairman of PPP, the joint candidate of the ruling coalition, won the election for the second time, beating PTI-backed candidate Mehmood Achakzai by a margin of victory.

The veteran politician secured 411 electoral votes in Parliament and four provincial assemblies with the support of coalition parties.

He previously served as the 11th President of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013 and has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018.
