KARACHI: In a historic achievement, 16-year-old Affan Salman from Pakistan emerged victorious at the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Sri Lanka, securing Pakistan’s fifth title in the prestigious event. This makes Pakistan the first country to achieve this feat.

Salman demonstrated exceptional skill, winning 19 out of 23 games and concluding the tournament with an impressive 20-4 record and a spread of +1793. His performance solidifies Pakistan’s dominance in international Scrabble.

Pakistani players excelled across the board, with Bilal Ashar securing 6th place, Ibrahim Mansoor achieving 8th, and Aehzam Ahmed earning a spot in the top 10.

Notably, Affan’s brother, Ali Salman, won the same title in 2022, making them the only siblings to hold this distinction.

Pakistan also won the team trophy, with four players finishing in the top ten. Bilal Ashar clinched the Under-14 title, while Zayan Zaman achieved the highest single-move score. Additionally, Waseem Khatri from Pakistan won the adult-side tournament.

This remarkable performance showcases the growing talent and prowess of Pakistani Scrabble players on the global stage.
