Punjab Police repel attack on Punjab-KP border checkpost

TAUNSA: Punjab Police foiled a second terrorist attack on Lakhani checkpost at Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border within a week, police officials said on Saturday.

According to the police spokesperson, around 15 to 20 heavily armed militants attacked the checkpoint in the early hours of Saturday, using rocket launchers and other heavy weapons.

The attackers attempt to launch an assault on the post in small groups from multiple directions but were detected through thermal imaging cameras before they could advance further.

In a swift response, alert personnel responded with machine guns and mortar fire, forcing the assailants to retreat, the statement read.

Police officer reported significant militant casualties, though exact figures remain unconfirmed. No injuries or casualties were reported among security personnel.

The operation was led by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ghazi Khan Captain (Retd) Sajjad Hassan Khan, with backup teams from the district police quickly reinforcing the post.

Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar commended the forces for their swift action in preventing the attack, the statement read.

Similar attack was carried out by militants on the same checkpoint six days ago, which was also successfully repelled. Police have so far successfully repelled 19 similar assaults on border checkpoints.
