LAHORE: In a move to protect and maintain peace in the area, the Punjab police has devised an extensive security plan for all mosques and Imambargahs during the praying hours.

According to the security plan, more than 36,500 mosques, 2,179 Imambargahs, and 444 places of worship in the province of Punjab will receive security during the month of Ramadan.

To ensure public safety and to avoid any potential risk over 75,000 police officers and community volunteers will be deployed in the designated areas.

In Lahore alone, a significant contingent will deploy over 5,000 officers and officials at mosques, Imambargahs, and markets for maintenance of law and order.

Security includes placement of 200 walk-through gates and at least 12,000 metal detectors at sensitive sites throughout the province.

Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, amplified this year’s security plan stating that it is more expansive compared with last Ramadan’s SOPs.

He cautioned the police force against anti-state elements and expressed hopes of beefing up security heights around religious establishments.
