RAWALPINDI: The government of Pakistan has heightened the security in the twin cities, Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ensure public safety due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf nationwide protest call after the Friday prayers.

The protest call has been given against the 26th Constitutional amendments with several roads being blocked and Section 144 imposed in Punjab and Karachi.

Rawalpindi Road Update

The city administration has taken precautionary measures, placing barriers on major roads like Peshawar Road near Charing Cross and Nala Road near Military Hospital, restricting traffic to a single lane. Zig-zag checkpoints have been set up at entry points, and police personnel are monitoring the situation.

The affected areas include Murree Road: Closed off, particularly routes leading to Mareer Chowk and Liaquat Bagh, Sawan Bridge: Single-lane traffic allowed, Faizabad: The main entry point from Rawalpindi to Islamabad is blocked with containers.

Metro Bus Service

The Metro Bus service remains suspended for the fifth consecutive day in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, initially halted from October 14 to 16 due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Conference. Although expected to resume on October 17, it remains closed due to the protest inconveniencing daily commuters.

The city administration’s measures aim to maintain law and order, ensuring public safety during the protest.
