Metro bus services to remain closed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi

Islamabad Metro bus service temporarily suspended

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad/Rawalpindi Metro Bus service, along with its feeder routes, will remain closed today, October 18, 2024, due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest call and the enforcement of Section 144 across Punjab.

This decision aims to ensure public safety, and authorities have requested the suspension of Metro Bus Services for an additional day.

The metro bus service suspension has been carried out from October 14, 2024, due to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad. However, the dates have been extended due to the political unrest in the twin cities.

To maintain law and order, all public and private colleges and universities across Punjab will remain closed today. The provincial government has taken strict measures, including sealing entry and exit points, blocking major routes, and deploying heavy police presence.

The government has also advised private offices to work from home and commercial centers to remain shut during the protest. Special police teams have been constituted to carry out arrests, and there is a ban on pillion riding of motorcycles in the twin cities.
