LONDON: Sarah Sharif‘s father Irfan Sharif and stepmother Benish Batool have been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl.

The court described the incident as horrific “violent” and “despicable” abuse that caused Sarah “unimaginable pain, suffering and anguish”.

Sarah, who lived with her family in Woking, Surrey, suffered repeated beatings, burning, cutting and restraining during years of abuse. The violence led to her death last August, after which her father and stepmother fled to Pakistan with her five siblings.

On Tuesday, the Old Bailey sentenced Irfan Sharif to 40 years in prison and Benish Batool to 33 years in prison for Sarah’s murder. Her uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was found guilty of causing or permitting Sarah’s death and was jailed for 16 years.
