School hours revised in Islamabad & KP regions amid intense heatwave

ISLAMABAD: In a major development, school timings have been revised amid the ongoing heatwave in the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) regions to protect students from extreme temperatures.

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced a reduction in the working hours of schools. According to Education Secretary Mohiuddin Wani, schools will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. During this period, there will be no assembly or sports periods. Earlier school hours were from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Similarly, the Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has adjusted the school timings. Schools will now open at 7 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. Primary sections will dismiss at 11:00 a.m., while middle, high, and higher secondary schools will dismiss at 12:00 p.m.

Additionally, summer vacation for primary schools will be from June 1 to August 31. The holidays for middle, high, and higher secondary schools will be from June 15 to August 31. Schools located in winter areas will have holidays starting July 1. August 31

The purpose of these changes is to protect students from the harmful effects of extreme heat. Parents and teachers are urged to adhere to the new hours to ensure the health and well-being of students.
