ISLAMABAD: In a ground breaking development, the Serena Interchange underpass is open to traffic, representing yet another leap towards Islamabad’s infrastructural development.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa visited the underpass and was satisfied with its progress, promising such an undertaking to redress the long-standing traffic issues of the area.

Completing the underpass is a major achievement, standing to ease and improve flow in traffic and connectivity within the capital.

Earlier, the federal minister of interior, Mohsin Naqvi, the Serena Chowk Interchange project would be finished in three months rather than ten. He gave the CDA the assignment to finish the project earlier than expected.

In addition to the Serena Interchange underpass, work on two other underpasses on Srinagar Highway have also been completed, with one on Suhrawardy Road now open to traffic.

The CDA is working to meet the deadlines for the project to ensure two more underpasses closer to Islamabad Club would be completed by January 20, 2025.

The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of the two major interchanges, worth Rs8 billion, on November 5, 2024. To ease traffic flow further, the CDA has also decided to construct an underpass on Murree Road to provide chosen motoring convenience for traffic coming from Murree down to Srinagar Highway.

Currently, vehicles coming from Murree would have to go all the way to Dhokri roundabout merely to get to Srinagar Highway, creating a real bottleneck in heavy traffic at the junction. The underpass on Murree Road is hoped to solve this issue.
