CHAMAN: At least seven people were martyred, and more than twenty others were injured in a gas cylinder explosion in the border city of Chaman.
The incident took place in the Shadzai area of the city when a gas cylinder exploded in a house. According to police officials, women and children were also among those killed in the explosion.
The explosion took place when children and elderly people of the village had gathered at the house. The massive explosion resulted in extensive damage to the house, destroying a major part of it.
Rescue teams and people reached the spot shortly after the explosion and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Several injured people are said to be in critical condition. Police have started an investigation to find out the cause of the explosion.
According to police, initial reports suggest that the explosion was triggered by a gas cylinder. A large number of children and women had gathered to take lassi when a 20kg gas cylinder kept in the kitchen of the house exploded.
