SIBI: Polling is presently being conducted for by-elections in the PB-8 constituency in Sibi, Balochistan as voting for the provincial assembly seat will continue until 5 PM.
As stated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), there are 116,161 registered voters in the Sibi constituency and 124 polling stations have been set up for voting activity.
Of these polling locations, 34 have been rated as extremely sensitive while 90 are labeled as sensitive. In a bid to maintain stability in the course of the by-elections, police and FC have been stationed at the highly sensitive polling stations.
There is also Vigilante surveillance in place through the use of CCTV cameras. These by-elections arose after the demise of a member of the provincial assembly from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), named Sarfraz Domki.
Domki is challenged by an independent candidate Mir Asghar Marri, and the PPP has chosen Sardar Kohyar Domki to contest this constituency.
Before November 14, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared those dates for the bye-elections but later changed them to November 17 due to some security issues. The ECP has reassured that it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the elections are free and fair.
