KARACHI: In a bid to empower women, the Sindh government’s Transport and Mass Transit department has launched the Free Electric Scooter scheme for females to enhance their mobility.
The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) will provide free training courses on riding and road safety across the province. To ensure fairness, the scooties will be distributed via a transparent balloting process, watched by the media, and supervised by a special committee made up of representatives from the departments of Excise, Transport, Finance, and Media.
To qualify, the female must be a permanent resident of Sindh, be either a student or a working woman, possess a valid driving license (motorbike or car), commit not to sell or sublet the scooter for at least 7 years, and pass a road safety skill test if selected through the draw.
The interested females can visit the official website of STMA (smta.sindh.gov.pk).
This initiative seeks to make everyday travel safer, more affordable, and accessible for women throughout Sindh. The government wants to encourage women’s social, professional, and educational endeavors by giving them a dependable mode of transportation.
